The Walk
Specs: The Walk, light installation, 2.5-meter diameter sphere comprising 5000 pixels with a total of 35,000 LED’s. The sphere is both, an object and a spherical screen showing a 7.5 minute long video loop.
The intense, red glow of the light reveals a fascinating variety of colours and movements. The spherical shape and the change of light and colour give the impression of a rotating planet. Based on Dante's Divine Comedy of the journey from Inferno to Purgatory, an illusory story unfolds, giving a sense of catharsis and the transition from fire to light. Flames and figures with torches appear as a non-stop procession into infinity, seeking meaning and happiness.
The spectator is invited to enter the procession, approach the sphere and walk around it without ever moving away from the light. In this form of interaction between spectator, space and object, visitors are not only absorbed by a play of light and image, but are also participants in a journey in search of light.

De intense, rode gloed van het licht laat een boeiende verscheidenheid aan kleuren en bewegingen zien. De bolvorm en de verandering van licht en kleur geven de indruk dat het een roterende planeet is. Op basis van Dante's Goddelijke Komedie van de reis van Inferno naar het Vagevuur ontvouwt zich een illusoir verhaal, dat een gevoel van catharsis en de overgang van vuur naar licht geeft. Vlammen en figuren met fakkels verschijnen als een non-stop optocht naar de oneindigheid, op zoek naar zingeving en geluk.
De toeschouwer wordt uitgenodigd om de processie binnen te gaan, de bol te benaderen en er omheen te lopen zonder ooit van het licht af te komen. In deze vorm van interactie tussen toeschouwer, ruimte en object worden de bezoekers niet alleen geabsorbeerd door een spel van licht en beeld, maar zijn ze ook deelnemers aan een reis op zoek naar licht.
