Five bunches of grapes of stainless steel with programmed interactive LED lighting. Originally installed above the Ten Katemarkt (2018–2023), now relocated to the Centrale Markthal (2025–2030).

The artwork is inspired by J.J.L. ten Kate’s poem De Schepping (The Creation), in which the grape symbolises paradise and the promise of abundance.

During the day, the bunches catch the natural daylight and appear to be ripening. As dusk falls, their character changes: the artwork begins to glow from within, making the transition between day and night palpable. In the evening, the play of light begins to breathe, and the bunches seem to ooze luminous sap. Anyone standing beneath it receives the light.

The bunches of grapes, which once lay as fresh fruit at the market, have now been transformed into an interactive light sculpture. Visitors set the sculptures in motion, causing the light to constantly change colour and spread across the street. In this way, the abundance of the market remains present: as a living stream of light that can be received by every visitor.

Het kunstwerk is geïnspireerd op J.J.L. ten Kates gedicht De Schepping, waarin de druif symbool staat voor paradijs en de belofte van overvloed.

Overdag vangen de trossen het natuurlijke daglicht en lijken ze te rijpen. Wanneer de schemering valt, verandert hun karakter: het kunstwerk begint van binnenuit te gloeien en maakt de overgang tussen dag en nacht voelbaar. ’s Avonds begint het lichtspel te ademen en lijkt de tros lichtend sap te lekken. Wie eronder staat, ontvangt het licht.

De druiventrossen, die als vers fruit op de markt lagen, zijn nu getransformeerd tot een interactieve lichtsculptuur. Bezoekers zetten de sculpturen in beweging, waardoor het licht voortdurend van kleur verandert en zich over de straat verspreidt. Zo blijft de overvloed van de markt aanwezig: als een levende stroom van licht die door iedere bezoeker kan worden ontvangen.
