Licht Echo maakt de onzichtbare ritmes van de stad zichtbaar. De wisselwerking tussen mens, stad en infrastructuur krijgt vorm als een langzaam bewegend lichtlandschap. De onderdoorgang wordt onderdeel van een ademend organisme waarin licht, water, bladeren en wolken lijken te stromen.


De tweeëntwintig zuilen vangen deze beweging als een echo en worden dragers van licht: trillend, golvend en verschuivend in kleur en intensiteit, als het licht van een zonsondergang.


Deze stroom volgt het ritme van de natuur: een overgang tussen verschijnen en verdwijnen, tussen helderheid en duisternis. Het licht pulseert door de passage en verbindt het landschap, de stad en iedereen die erdoorheen beweegt.


Het kunstwerk Licht Echo is een cadeau van de gemeente Amsterdam aan de bewoners van Amsterdam Noord, ter ere van 750 jaar Amsterdam. Het werk kwam mede tot stand met de participatie van meiden en jonge vrouwen uit Noord en leerlingen van de middelbare scholen Vonk en Noorderlicht.


Locatie Brug 934, onderdoorgang tussen de Loenermark en de Rode Kruisstraat, Amsterdam Noord.

Light Echo

Specs: 22 light columns, divided into 2 series of 11 columns. Dimensions per series: L 9.20 m × H 2.00 m × D 0.20 m. 3D printed recycled PET-G, stainless steel, LED and film clips.


Light Echo brings the invisible rhythms of the city to life. The interplay between people, the city and its infrastructure takes shape as a slowly shifting landscape of light. The underpass becomes part of a living organism through which light, water, leaves and clouds seem to flow.


The twenty-two columns capture this movement like an echo and become carriers of light: vibrating, undulating and shifting in colour and intensity, like the light of a sunset.


This flow follows the rhythm of nature: a transition between appearing and disappearing, between brightness and darkness. The light pulses through the passageway, connecting the landscape, the city and everyone who moves through it.


The artwork Light Echo is a gift from the municipality of Amsterdam to the residents of Amsterdam Noord, in honor of Amsterdam's 750th anniversary. The work was created with the participation of girls and young women from Noord and the secondary schools Vonk and Noorderlicht.
